Learn to get in touch with the silence within yourself and know
that everything in this life has a purpose, there are no mistakes, no
coincidences, all events are blessings given to us to learn from” Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
Last Sunday I got the news that one my friend’s mom expired; it was sad news and this death brought in old memories of my association with her.
Every interaction I had with this aunty flashed before my eyes and a feeling of gratitude overwhelmed me for all that she was- A very cheerful and friendly person, always welcoming with a smile whenever I met her.
She was also very sensitive and caring, there were situations in my life when I was expecting my first child, feeling insecure and alone in the hospital getting prepared for delivery, and she walked in with a smile, held my hand and assured me that all will be well.
I can never forget her thoughtfulness when she surprised me with bag full of tiny little things for the new born and left it with me saying you may need it J there are so many other things that came to my mind that day. I thanked the Lord for all the experiences and decided to pay my last respect to her in the cemetery.
I reached early waiting for the funeral service – and as I walked around in the grave yard I found some very beautiful trees standing tall and it was as if they were witnessing everything that is happening in the cemetery. I loved these trees and felt that they were silently listening to the sound of broken hearts struggling to cope with pain of sorrow and death; allowing those who have lost their loved ones to experience and accept pain of separation from the earth.
I prayed silently in my heart, for the souls who have been on this earth and now are no more; I believe strongly that those whom we love never really die, as they continue to live in our hearts. So there was no sorrow in me, just a reminder that one day we all have to leave and the time is very short, a voice within myself to begin and end each day as the first and the last.
“It’s only when we truly know and understand that we have a limited time on earth – and that we have no way of knowing when our time is up- that we will begin to live each day to the fullest, as if it was the only one we had” Elisabeth Kubler-Ross.
